This  Large Tapestry is a Burmese Craft called Kalaga .It is usually purchased in Thailand, though. There is a thin cotton backing to which it is sewn.There are shiny thread, gold sequin and broken glass shards... sewn throughout to make this one BEAUTIFUL and UNIQUE piece!!! This is an OLD piece...

sewn throughout to make this one BEAUTIFUL and UNIQUE piece!!! This is an OLD piece, and the Hanaman comes out from the backing (thick relief)

 

This particular piece is of Hanaman, the Monkey god, from the Ramayana or Ramakyan

sewn on this panel which is 22"x22"............the background is cotton.......
